Description

Asking for introductions can bring you to a meeting with a hero of yours, a customer, investor, or colleague -- and, more often than not, we ask by email. Hear from Roy Bahat, head of early-stage venture capital firm Bloomberg Beta, as he helps you learn how to break down the key parts of a "forward intro email," his industry-standard method.

His method lets you (the requester of the introduction) do the things you’re best at — describing who you are, what your organization does, why you want to talk to the receiver, speaking in your own voice, etc. And the introducer does only the things they're best at — knowing the receiver, and sharing their opinion of you. It also allows the introducer to spend as little time as possible on the favor you've asked, to make your introduction as quickly as possible.

If you ask Roy for an introduction, he’ll introduce you to literally anyone he knows if he believes it’s likely to be in their interest. When he receives the right kind of forward intro email, he’ll just hit “forward” and write something like “Hey Karin, I met this founder and thought she was onto something — take a look at the below, do you want to talk?” When the receiver replies, usually with a “sounds great,” he’ll just add you to the chain and it’s done (vs. having to write yet another email introducing you both).

In this class, you’ll learn what makes a good forward intro email and things to avoid. We’ll review a sample email and practice writing your own as well, so you’ll walk away ready to send the perfect forwardable email and meet your heroes.
