How to Teach Creative Writing to ELL Learners (High School)

with
Michelle Renee Hoppe
Focusing on teaching basic English through creative writing exercises and demystifying the grammatical teaching experience, we'll go over how to turn language learning into a game of strategy. We'll then go into the cognitive and linguistic changes that can happen in the brains of beginning language students and how creativity can silence perfectionistic and shame-based ELL experiences. This course is for educators who wish to make language learning culturally responsive, restorative, inviting, and fun!
This is a single-session event.

Description

Learn how to help students express their authentic selves and voices through ELL lessons.

We'll focus on grades 7-12, and we'll include ways to scaffold and differentiate these lesson plans. Each week, you'll get a new lesson plan you can adapt for your own multicultural and multilingual classroom. You'll get feedback on one lesson plan of your own making, and you'll also get recommendations of appropriate reading materials for your teaching target age group and level.
