Crafting a powerful exhibition review is an art in itself. How do you get started? In this introductory class, designed for creative professionals of all levels, former ARTnews editor Robin Cembalest shares templates and best practices for writing critically about art in clear, accessible language.
In the first part of the class, she’ll share reviews from various writers to sample different approaches. She’ll break down the elements of exhibition reviews, including structure and flow, describing the artist and the art, and evaluating the quality of the work, concept, and presentation.
In the second part of the class, she will answer questions about writing reviews and offer one-on-one feedback on brief writing samples by participants who choose to bring them. The class will come away with a deeper understanding of the craft and power of the art review--as writers and also as readers.
