Would you like to bring more beauty to your cooking? Join top food stylist Susan Spungen for an intimate workshop designed to take your recipe development, food styling, and food photography skills up several notches. This is a rare opportunity to interact directly with a true pro -- Susan’s career highlights include being the culinary consultant and food stylist on the feature films Julie & Julia, It’s Complicated, and Eat, Pray, Love, and serving as the founding food editor at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.
- Session 1 “Recipe Basics”: Susan will cover the theory and techniques behind recipe development and writing and share tips and her own practices for ideating recipes. She’ll guide you through an exercise to begin writing your own recipe that you’ll refine over the course of the workshop!
- Session 2 “How to Build in Beauty”: In this session, you’ll have an opportunity to share and discuss your recipe with Susan. Then, Susan will teach critical considerations for writing beauty into your recipe. After all, it’s much easier to style food that starts out with beautiful bones! Susan will end this session with the basics of food styling, propping, and using iPhone photography. You’ll receive an assignment to share with Susan before the third and final session.
- Session 3 “Make it! (Beautifully!)”: You’ll attempt to cook, style, and photograph your recipe. Then, you’ll submit the final recipe and a photograph (or two!) of your prepared dish in advance of the workshop session. Susan will review submissions and prepare feedback which she’ll share in a fun final session. Each participant will leave the workshop with a recipe tested and refined under Susan’s expert guidance.
This event is open to home cooks, aspiring bloggers and instagrammers, as well as those hoping to break into the business professionally, or for anyone wanting to up their game when it comes to creating beautiful, unique, original recipes.
