From 2009 to 2019, David J. Peterson served as the language creator on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” In that time, he created 5 full languages and translated and recorded well over 1,000 lines of dialogue. In this retrospective on the ten-year anniversary of the airing of the first episode of “Game of Thrones,” Peterson will go all the way back to the beginning and talk about the process of creating Dothraki and Valyrian and share what went on behind the scenes—from the successes to the inexplicable gaffes, from the happy memories to the painful ones. If there’s ever anything you wanted to know about the languages of “Game of Thrones,” this event is not to be missed!
This talk will feature clips from “Game of Thrones,” some of which feature violence, and so would not be recommended for younger viewers. Attendees will not need any background in languages or linguistics to enjoy this presentation.
