Build Your Photography Portfolio

Self promotion has always been a key factor in how we shop our talents to potential paying clients. The days of sending out our “book” to photo editors sounds like ancient history. As photographers, we need to understand how to solicit work in editorial, advertising, branded, and sponsored content in both the print and digital arenas. It can be a lot to manage, but Andrew Scrivani is here to discuss your struggles, offer suggestions, and help you map out an actionable plan to market yourself and find success.

Andrew will lead a dialogue about these and any related topics surrounding photography in general and food photography specifically, as well as how to best position yourself with a solid public-facing presentation of your work. The three, 60-minute small-group sessions with Andrew are structured as follows:

  • Session 1: Learn. Andrew will cover three topics he has identified as critical to success for photographers in an ever-changing ecosystem: Specificity, Editing, and Versatility. Participants will leave this session with a homework assignment to evaluate their own portfolio based on the topics Andrew has shared and to bring a selection of their work to be reviewed by Andrew in discussion with the group.
  • Session 2: Portfolio review. Participants will share portfolios or work samples with the group and highlight key challenges they are facing. Andrew will review each portfolio and address challenges raised in dialogue with the group.
  • Session 3: Q&A. Participants have the opportunity to ask specific questions linked to their public-facing work. i.e. social media, websites, stock photography, soliciting work. You’ll end this workshop with tangible next steps you can apply to your current projects.

This event is capped at 15 participants to ensure each participant gets to engage directly with Andrew on their work. Photographers of any level are welcome and will benefit from this workshop. Whether you’re a pro currently getting paid for photography, a hobbyist, or beginner, Andrew has 20 years of experience teaching courses with mixed skill sets and believes it adds to the quality of the learning experience for everyone. Join this event to learn from a master of the photography craft alongside a small group of passionate creatives and work through some of those burning questions about how to take your work to the next level.
