In the enterprise of operating your creative business, it can be difficult to set aside the time to seek out professional development resources and opportunities for yourself. But finding time to invest in your craft is essential to the growth and longer-term success and enjoyment of your work. New York Times photographer Andrew Scrivani has designed his photography mentorship program to provide a structured, efficient, and highly personalized experience for photographers who are ready to see tangible growth in their work product and business.
In this mentorship program, you’ll spend 15 sessions evaluating your photography business to identify opportunities for growth and improvement with the support of a true expert in the field. The program includes a variety of different types of engagement opportunities with Andrew, both in small groups and in personalized feedback sessions. The program is limited to 10 participants and includes the following:
The cohort meets weekly and follows the outline described below:
Week 1: Project announcement and discussion on an aspect of the craft or business of photography.
Week 2: Project check-ins and Q&A. The office hours style sessions are designed for open discussion on your specific projects and focus areas. Attend these sessions to get feedback on your work or to ask Andrew questions.
Week 3: Project critique session. Learning accelerates in small groups, and these sessions are designed to provide rich feedback and discussion within the small group of participants.
This pattern repeats five times over the course of the mentorship program.
In total, participants will have access to over 24 hours of live mentorship time with Andrew, in addition to a private Slack community with Andrew and all mentorship participants.
This mentorship program is ideal for photographers seeking to monetize their work and working professionals looking to scale their businesses up to include bigger clients and multiple income streams. It is designed to address all aspects of the photography business from creative development, improving business acumen, client negotiations, seeking and acquiring representation, and developing strategies to broaden client access and successfully navigate social media.
The program will focus on individualized project work connected to the lecture themes. Some of those themes will be focused on creative challenges and others on business development. Andrew will customize projects to reflect the needs of each individual mentee. Every participant will come away with valuable, actionable insights aimed at furthering the goals each individual sets for themselves at the onset of the program. Photography is a craft, an art form, and a business, and we will focus on improving all 3 aspects of this profession in this program.
