What does it mean to be happy? We'll explore how various thinkers' answers to that question can guide our own pursuit of happiness.
Event Description: We want to be happy, we want those we love to be happy, and we want the communities to which we belong to be happy. But what is happiness? We'll briefly explore the ways different thinkers have answered those questions with the hope that our reflections will help guide our pursuit of happiness.
Event Location: This event will take place online via Zoom, a free video-conferencing tool. New to Zoom? After you buy your ticket, you'll receive an email with step-by-step instructions on how to use it, and you'll be a pro in no time!
Joseph's Bio: Dr. Joseph Stenberg is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at San José State University. The nexus of his research is happiness and its history. He has two book-length projects under contract at Cambridge University Press connected to medieval conceptions of happiness. Joseph has also published papers, among other things, on contemporary accounts of well-being and on how God’s happiness has been conceptualized in monotheistic religious traditions. These efforts have been supported by a series of fellowships, including a Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers from 2016-2018.
