Description

Young adult (YA) books are fun to read and even more fun to write, but they also come with their own set of special challenges for writers. This workshop will teach you the elements of writing a memorable YA voice, and how to craft a novel that fits into the market. Guided by Carlisle Webber, a literary agent with Fuse Literary specializing in commercial fiction, attendees will learn:

  • What separates a YA novel from an adult or middle grade novel
  • Tips for writing a believable teen protagonist
  • How to handle difficult content in a YA novel
  • Ways to use plot and setting to reinforce a teen character’s authenticity

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants may submit the first 5-pages of their manuscript for personalized comments and feedback from Carlisle. Writers with a focus in the Fiction genre will get the most out of this workshop.
