Bio

Known as the Mother of Sharks, Melissa Cristina Márquez is a marine biologist, TV presenter, founder of the shark education program The Fins United Initiative, and creator/host of ConCiencia Azul, a Spanish marine science podcast. Through Scholastic, she is writing the “Wild Survival” series that features diverse, global environments and the animals that inhabit them. Márquez has given TEDx talks, has been named one of BBC’s 100 Influential and Inspirational Women, was listed in Forbes “30 Under 30” science category, and was recently highlighted in InStyle Magazine’s as one of the “50 Badass Women” making the world a better place.
