Whether in person, video calls, or audio apps like Clubhouse, artists need that classic elevator pitch. In this lively workshop, Robin Cembalest, a longtime coach, mentor, and former editor of ARTnews, helps artists conquer their fear of speaking in public. With exercises, tips, and one-on-one feedback, she helps participants build this essential skill.
Cembalest, who created this class for the Bronx Museum’s Artist in the Marketplace program, has taught it at schools, residencies, and professional organizations. Using her deep understanding of the challenges artists face in refining their message, she has developed her workshop around the technique of rehearsed improvisation. In the first hour of the workshop, she offers a how-to presentation with the tools to craft the pitch. In the second hour, after Q&A, each participant will take their turn workshopping their pitch. You will come away with a roadmap for crafting effective language to promote yourself and your projects moving forward.
This workshop has been created specifically for visual artists but creative professionals of all disciplines will find the material and lessons useful.
